Whistling thorn camp
Set in classic African thorn-tree bush in the Great Rift Valley with stunning views of the Escarpment, Whistling Thorn Camp is a private concession adjacent to famed elephant haven Tarangire National Park. Whistling Thorn Camp is a perfect facility for groups or individuals who would like something out of the ordinary for their safari experience ~ where nature, culture, and conservation come together in the heart of wild Africa.
Accommodation : Whistling Thorn Camp can accommodate up to twelve lucky guests in six spacious canvas tents under permanent grass-thatched ramadas. Each tent, with either two single beds or one king-sized bed, has shelving, a writing desk and an en suite bathroom with flush toilet and luxurious hot showers.
A shaded veranda with chairs, table, and washbasins overlooks parkland of whistling thorns and flat-topped acacia trees where giraffe, zebra and elephant graze, and the occasional Maasai warriors wander by. At night, your private tent is lit by electric light, and torches (flashlights) are provided.
It can hardly be called “camping!” Guests at Whistling Thorn Camp enjoy meals served in a spacious dining tent, with friendly staff who serve at tableside or set up a buffet style meal such as at lunchtime or breakfast.
Dining : Our chef prepares sumptuous three- and four-course meals, beginning with freshly baked breads (see right) and delectable soups, followed by fresh Tanzania vegetables, salads, and meats, finished with perfect desserts. A bar selection is available
