DRIVING YOUR RENTAL CAR IN TANZANIA

Safety while doing self drive Tanzania

Your Safety is our Priority; here is some essential advice when you are on your Self Drive Safari into Tanzania:

  • Excessive speed is the main cause of all accidents, self drive camper vehicles are not designed for speed.
  • Always wear your seat belt, it is the law and it is there to protect you.
  • It is recommended that you follow the speed limits at all times:
    • Tar Roads Max 80km/hr
    • Gravel Roads Max 50km/hr
    • Dirt Tracks Max 40km/hr
  • The second cause of all accidents is losing concentration, make sure you take regular breaks and enjoy the journey.
  • Keep your headlights on during the day on Tar Roads and dirty as it increases your visibility to oncoming traffic.
  • Check your radiator coolant every morning before you head out on your journey, always ensure the coolant lid is securely fastened and never open the coolant lid when your engine is hot. All Land Rovers has recommended coolant lever.
  • Check your Oil levels daily and ensure your engine has the recommended Oil levels.
  • Always know what tyre pressures are needed for your driving conditions, Tar = Higher Pressures, Gravel = Medium Pressures and Sand = Lower Pressures. Check your Tyre pressures daily.
  • Avoid night driving, pedestrians, wild & domesticated animals use the road at night and often you will find vehicles with no lights on the road. Inside the parks its restricted to drive during the night.
  • Never off road while inside the parks always follow and stay in the tracks inside the parks.
  • Slow down whenever you see animals on or near the road, they can be unpredictable and may run into your path.
  • Never Drive with 4WD (4H or 4L) engaged when driving above 20KMH this will cause serious damage to the vehicle differential lock should only be engaged when absolutely necessary and will restrict the steering control of the vehicle, always ensure that once you have released yourself from being stuck that you disengage.
  • Never overload the vehicle with passengers and never give a ride to strangers.
  • Always ensure you have sufficient fuel for your journey, fill up regularly with the correct fuel at appropriate filling stations.
  • Always drive while looking at the lights at your dashboard whenever any warning light comes on stop immediately and inspect the problem.
