Tell us your dates, group size, and budget. Our team in Arusha will design a safari and Zanzibar itinerary just for you, free of charge.
Our Tanzania safari and Zanzibar packages combine the two best sides of this country in one trip. First, you track the Big Five across the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire. After that, you fly one hour east and land on the white sands of Zanzibar.
Kilidove Tours has planned this bush and beach combination from Arusha for more than 15 years. We hold Travelife certification and won Best Safari Tour Operator at the 2025 World Luxury Awards. Every package below is private, and we adjust each one around your dates, budget, and pace.
Why combine a Tanzania safari with a Zanzibar beach holiday?
A safari fills your days with early starts, dusty roads, and constant movement between national parks. Zanzibar gives you the opposite. You trade game drives for warm Indian Ocean water, seafood dinners, and slow mornings.
The logistics also work in your favor. You land at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), complete the northern circuit, and fly from Arusha to Zanzibar in about an hour. You then fly home directly from Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ), so nothing repeats.
Honeymooners love this route, and so do families with children. However, it also suits first-time visitors who want wildlife and beach time in a single ticket. If that sounds like you, our Tanzania honeymoon and family safari pages show tailored versions of the same idea.
How to plan your safari and Zanzibar trip
How many days do you need?
Most travelers book 10 to 11 days for a full Tanzania and Zanzibar tour. That gives you five or six safari days and four beach days without rushing.
Shorter on time? Seven days still works well. In that case, we suggest four safari days and three nights on the island. For a slower pace, 14 days lets you add the Great Migration, a Stone Town night, and extra beach time.
As a rule, plan at least three nights on safari and three nights in Zanzibar. Anything less cuts both halves short.
Safari first or Zanzibar first?
Do the safari first. Game drives start before sunrise, and the roads between parks are long and bumpy. Therefore, the beach feels far better as a reward at the end.
Some guests still reverse the order, usually because their international flight lands in Zanzibar. We arrange that route too, so tell us your flight plan and we will build around it.
Getting from the safari to Zanzibar
After your last game drive, your guide drops you at Arusha Airport (ARK). From there, Coastal Aviation, Auric Air, and Precision Air fly daily to Zanzibar. The flight takes about one hour and usually costs around 200 US dollars one way.
One practical note: light aircraft allow around 15 kilograms of luggage in soft bags. We remind every guest before departure, so nobody repacks at the airstrip. Budget travelers can instead take the ferry from Dar es Salaam to Stone Town, although this adds a full travel day.
What you will see on safari
Our packages focus on the northern circuit, the strongest wildlife region in Africa.
Serengeti National Park. Home of the Great Wildebeest Migration and large lion, leopard, and cheetah populations. Between June and September, herds cross the Mara River in the north.
Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage Site packs the densest Big Five viewing on the continent inside one caldera. Black rhino sightings happen here more often than anywhere else on the circuit.
Tarangire National Park. Huge elephant herds move between ancient baobab trees, especially in the dry season.
Lake Manyara. Famous for tree-climbing lions, flamingos, and forested groundwater springs.
In addition, you can add a hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti at sunrise. Cultural visits to a Maasai village or the Hadzabe of Lake Eyasi also fit easily into most routes.
What you will do in Zanzibar
Zanzibar rewards both rest and curiosity. Your hotel choice shapes the trip, so we match the coast to your style.
Nungwi and Kendwa sit in the north. The ocean here stays swimmable at every tide, which suits honeymooners and families. Paje and Jambiani line the east coast, where kitesurfers fill the lagoon and prices stay friendlier. Matemwe faces Mnemba Atoll, the best snorkeling and diving site on the island.
Beyond the beach, Stone Town deserves at least half a day. This UNESCO-listed old town mixes Swahili, Omani, and Indian history in its carved doors and spice markets. Meanwhile, popular day trips include the Safari Blue dhow cruise, a spice farm tour, and Jozani Forest with its red colobus monkeys.
Want more island time? We also arrange extensions to Pemba, Mnemba, and Mafia Island, where whale sharks gather between October and February. For a full activity list, see our Zanzibar island guide and top things to do in Zanzibar.
Best time to visit Tanzania and Zanzibar
June to October is the prime window. The dry season concentrates wildlife around rivers, and Zanzibar stays sunny with low humidity.
December to February works almost as well. You catch the calving season in the Ndutu plains, and the island delivers hot, clear beach days. However, the long rains from mid-March to May bring low prices, green scenery, and quiet lodges.
Note one requirement before you fly. Zanzibar now asks every foreign visitor to buy its official ZIC travel insurance, currently 44 US dollars per person. We guide you through this during booking. For month-by-month detail, read our best time to visit Tanzania guide.
How much does a Tanzania and Zanzibar package cost?
Our 11-day safari and Zanzibar trip gives you a clear reference price. It starts at 2,865 US dollars per person in low season for groups of six. Two travelers in high season pay 4,157 US dollars per person at the same mid-luxury level.
Season and group size drive the difference, so here is the full breakdown for that trip:
| Season | 2 persons | 4 persons | 6+ persons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low (March to May 30) | 3,791 USD | 3,121 USD | 2,865 USD |
| Mid (June, November to December 19) | 3,854 USD | 3,184 USD | 2,928 USD |
| High (July, August, December 20 to January 10, February) | 4,157 USD | 3,455 USD | 3,186 USD |
Indicative costs per person, excluding international airline tickets.
These rates cover your private 4×4 vehicle with unlimited mileage, park fees, accommodation, the flight to Zanzibar, drinking water, government taxes, VAT, and 24/7 support. Tips and international flights stay excluded. In addition, every package comes in three lodge tiers. Luxury and high-end upgrades raise the total, and we quote those on request.
Shorter combinations cost less, and longer ones cost more. Therefore, send us your dates and group size for an exact price on any package above.

Is it better to do the safari before or after Zanzibar?
Safari first. The beach then becomes your recovery after early mornings and long park drives.
How do you get from the safari to Zanzibar?
You take a one-hour flight from Arusha to Zanzibar. Daily flights leave every morning and afternoon, and we book them as part of your package.
Can you do a safari from Zanzibar?
Yes. Fly-in day trips reach Nyerere National Park and Mikumi from Zanzibar. However, a full northern circuit safari before the island offers far better wildlife viewing.
Do I need travel insurance for Zanzibar?
Yes. Zanzibar requires its official ZIC inbound insurance, which costs 44 US dollars and covers 92 days. Your own travel insurance does not replace it.
Do I need a visa and a yellow fever certificate?
Most nationalities need a Tanzania eVisa, which costs 50 to 100 US dollars. Tanzania asks for a yellow fever certificate only if you arrive from a risk country. See our visa guide for details.
Is this trip good for honeymoons and families?
Very much so. Couples get privacy and romance, while children love the wildlife and calm northern beaches. We adjust lodges, pace, and activities for both.
Which month combines the Great Migration with Zanzibar best?
July to September for Mara River crossings, or late January to February for the calving season. Both windows give you dry, sunny beach weather.
