Our Tanzania safari and Zanzibar packages combine a private wildlife safari with an island stay. Choose your route, accommodation category and balance of game drives, Stone Town and beach time. Each itinerary sets out its own parks, flights and overnight stops.

Our team in Arusha can tailor the trip around your dates, budget and pace. If you prefer a mainland-only holiday, compare our Tanzania safari tours.

Why combine a Tanzania safari with a Zanzibar beach holiday?

Combining a safari with Zanzibar gives you time for game drives and a beach stay within one holiday. Choose how much time to spend in the parks, Stone Town and at the beach around your interests and available days.

Your arrival airport, safari departure point and flight to Zanzibar depend on the chosen route. Check the full travel plan before booking international flights, including whether you will depart from Zanzibar or connect through another airport.

How to plan your safari and Zanzibar trip

How many days do you need?

Choose the trip length around the parks you want to visit and the time you would like on Zanzibar. Compare the day-by-day routes rather than treating every mainland day as a safari day.

Our 7-day Tanzania and Zanzibar itinerary includes two safari days in Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater, followed by three nights on Zanzibar: one in Stone Town and two at the beach. Arrival and transfer days are part of the seven-day trip.

Longer itineraries can allow more game drives, additional parks or extra island nights. Check the selected package for its exact route and overnight stays.

Safari first or Zanzibar first?

Safari first suits travellers who want to finish with beach time. Zanzibar first can suit your international flights or preferred travel order. Share your flight plans and we can discuss the route, connections and overnight stays before you book.

Getting from the safari to Zanzibar

Your mainland-to-Zanzibar flight depends on the safari route you choose. Check the departure airport or airstrip in your itinerary; it is not always Arusha Airport (ARK). Flight times, stops and fares vary by service and travel date, so use the confirmed booking details rather than assuming a one-hour flight or a fixed fare.

Baggage allowances also vary by airline and booking. Check the total weight limit, bag dimensions and soft-bag requirements on your ticket before packing. If you prefer a ferry from Dar es Salaam, ask us to plan the mainland journey and ferry connection separately.

What you will see on safari

Choose the parks that suit your interests and available safari days. Not every package visits every park below; check its day-by-day route.

Serengeti National Park. Compare time in Central Serengeti with a seasonal migration-area stay. Herd locations and river crossings depend on natural conditions.

Ngorongoro Crater. Game drives explore the crater’s grasslands and wetlands, with opportunities to look for wildlife including black rhino. Sightings are not guaranteed.

Tarangire National Park. Look for elephants among the baobabs and river landscapes; animal concentrations vary with conditions.

Lake Manyara National Park. This stop adds lake, woodland and groundwater-forest habitats to selected routes.

Ask about an optional Serengeti balloon safari or a cultural visit when planning your route. Availability, extra cost and travel time need to be confirmed; these are not automatically included in every package.

What you will do in Zanzibar

Zanzibar rewards both rest and curiosity. Your hotel choice shapes the trip, so we match the coast to your style.

Nungwi and Kendwa sit in the north. Ask about the beach at your chosen hotel: tides, sea conditions and local advice affect swimming and water activities. Paje and Jambiani line the east coast, with options for beach stays and kitesurfing. Matemwe faces Mnemba Atoll, an area for snorkeling and diving excursions.

Beyond the beach, Stone Town deserves at least half a day. This UNESCO-listed old town mixes Swahili, Omani, and Indian history in its carved doors and spice markets. Meanwhile, popular day trips include the Safari Blue dhow cruise, a spice farm tour, and Jozani Forest with its red colobus monkeys.

Want more island time? We also arrange extensions to Pemba, Mnemba, and Mafia Island, where whale sharks gather between October and February. For a full activity list, see our Zanzibar island guide and top things to do in Zanzibar.

Best time to visit Tanzania and Zanzibar

June to October is generally a drier period for combining a northern Tanzania safari with Zanzibar. Wildlife viewing and beach conditions still vary, and sunshine is not guaranteed.

January and February can suit travellers interested in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu calving season, provided that area is included in the chosen route. March to May is generally wetter; consider road conditions, hotel availability and your tolerance for rain alongside the quoted price.

Choose your safari location and beach plans together rather than relying on a single “best” month. Read our best time to visit Tanzania guide for more seasonal detail.

How much does a Tanzania and Zanzibar package cost?

As one example, our 11-day Tanzania safari and Zanzibar trip starts at $2,865.00 USD per person for 6+ travellers in low season, in the Mid-Luxury accommodation category. For two travellers in high season, the published example is $4,157.00 USD per person.

These are total trip prices for that specific itinerary, not daily rates or the starting price of every package on this page. International airline tickets are excluded. The table below reproduces that itinerary’s published rates; request a quote for your exact departure date.

What is included?

The 11-day example includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner, a private 4×4 safari vehicle, fuel, driver-guide, park fees, drinking water, the listed local flight, government taxes, VAT and 24/7 support. International airline tickets, tips, alcohol and other drinks, and optional extra activities are excluded.

Full board means breakfast, lunch and dinner; it does not mean all drinks and excursions are included. Check the selected itinerary and your quotation for the exact flight sectors, transfers and activities.

Choose your accommodation category

Compare Mid-Luxury, Luxury and High-End options for each overnight stop. The example prices above are for Mid-Luxury; Luxury and High-End choices have separate rates. On Zanzibar, consider both the hotel and its location: a Stone Town stay and a beach stay offer different experiences. Ask us to price your preferred properties and room types for your dates.

FAQs

Can you check dietary requirements for both safari lodges and Zanzibar hotels?

Tell us about dietary requirements or food allergies before confirming the trip. Ask for arrangements to be checked with each safari lodge and Zanzibar hotel, including packed lunches and transfer days. A request should not be treated as confirmed until the relevant property has agreed to it.

What if we have already booked our Zanzibar hotel?

Send the hotel name, location and booked dates when you enquire. These details are needed to assess how the mainland safari, island flight and transfers could fit around your existing reservation. Confirm the revised scope and price before making further bookings.

Can our group arrive on different international flights?

Share each traveller’s arrival airport, flight time and departure details. Different arrivals may require separate transfers or an additional overnight stop, so have the meeting point, start time and any extra costs set out in the quote.

What should travellers with mobility needs discuss before booking?

Describe the assistance you need for vehicle access, walking, steps and bathroom facilities. Ask for the specific vehicle, lodge rooms, Zanzibar hotel and airport transfers to be checked before confirming. Accessibility varies by property and route; a category label alone does not establish suitability.

Can you do a safari from Zanzibar?

Yes, a safari can be planned with Zanzibar as the starting point. Tell us which parks you want to visit and how many days you have so we can check suitable flights, transfers and overnight stops. A short fly-in safari and a multi-day northern circuit cover different routes; choose according to your interests and available time.

Do I need travel insurance for Zanzibar?

Check the applicable mandatory inbound insurance before travelling. Current official guidance uses your first point of entry to determine the provider and explains when a valid policy covers onward travel between mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar without duplicate payment. Keep the certificate and QR code with you.

See our Zanzibar travel insurance guide and the official ZIC notice for the applicable conditions. Check current eligibility, exemptions and premiums for your journey.

Do I need a visa and a yellow fever certificate?

Visa eligibility and the application process depend on your nationality and travel circumstances. Check our Tanzania visa guide and the official immigration guidance before booking. Yellow fever documentation depends on your travel history and transit route; confirm current entry requirements with the relevant authority and discuss vaccination advice with a travel-health professional.

Is this trip good for honeymoons and families?

Share children’s ages, room requirements and preferred daily pace when requesting a quote. For couples, tell us whether you prefer more game drives, quiet beach time or particular room arrangements. Property policies, activity suitability and special requests need to be checked for the accommodation you select.
