Responsible travel sits at the core of everything we do at Kilidove Tours. We believe every safari should protect the very landscapes it celebrates. Our team works daily to reduce waste, support local communities, and preserve Tanzania’s wilderness. This page shares the real actions behind that commitment. As a result, you can travel with us knowing your trip gives back.

Reducing Plastic and Waste on Every Safari to keep responsible travel
Plastic waste remains a serious challenge across East Africa’s tourism industry. Therefore, we built our operations around practical, measurable solutions. Our refilling bottle policy alone helped us avoid over 14,000 single-use plastic bottles in 2025. Guests refill from reusable containers throughout their journey instead of buying new bottles daily.
We also replaced disposable lunch packaging with reusable hamper boxes on every safari. This single change helped us avoid roughly 220 kilograms of disposable waste last year. Additionally, our offices strengthened selective waste separation to reduce landfill disposal. Consequently, our teams now sort and record waste more accurately than before.

Cutting Emissions Through Smarter Driving
Fuel consumption directly affects our environmental footprint on every game drive. In response, we reinforced our Sustainable Driving Code of Conduct for all safari guides. This code encourages smoother driving habits and consistent vehicle maintenance checks. As a result, we reduced fuel consumption by 2.3 percent between 2024 and 2025.
That improvement translated into over 1,000 litres of fuel saved across the year. In turn, this prevented an estimated 2.9 tonnes of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere. We continue tracking these numbers closely to set realistic targets for the future.
Planting Trees for Long-Term Impact
Tree planting forms a central pillar of our environmental strategy. In 2025 alone, our team planted 919 trees through our own dedicated project. These trees support long-term restoration efforts across the areas where we operate. Beyond planting, we also monitor survival rates to ensure lasting environmental benefit.
Our tree planting additionally supports a carbon offset plan tied to our operations. Specifically, hundreds of trees are allocated to offset emissions linked to staff mobility. Others help offset emissions from generators and fuel use at our offices. Together, these efforts move us steadily toward a smaller environmental footprint.
Investing in Our People and Local Communities
Our guides, drivers, and office staff make every safari possible. Consequently, we invest heavily in training, fair wages, and safe working conditions. Nearly all of our ground team members come from Tanzania, and every one works from our Arusha base. Furthermore, women make up close to a third of our workforce.
In 2025, every single staff member completed structured sustainability training. This training covered environmental practices, ethical guest interactions, and responsible tourism principles. In October of that year, we introduced structured e-learning schedules for ongoing staff development. Through this approach, sustainability knowledge stays current across every department.
Protecting Kilimanjaro’s Porters and Guides
Ethical trekking practices matter deeply to our Kilimanjaro operations. That is why we joined the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project through the Kilimanjaro Responsible Tourism Organisation. This membership reflects our commitment to fair porter treatment and safe working conditions on the mountain. Every trek we organize follows strict guidelines around wages, gear, and rest.
Beyond porter welfare, our guides receive ongoing training in Leave No Trace principles. These principles help minimize the impact of trekking on Kilimanjaro’s fragile ecosystem. Therefore, choosing Kilidove Tours means supporting both the mountain and the people who work on it.
Respecting Culture and Community
Cultural visits require sensitivity, awareness, and clear guidance. For this reason, we introduced an internal list of sensitive excursions in 2025. This resource helps our sales and operations teams manage cultural visits responsibly. It also provides clear guidance on appropriate behavior during community interactions.
Our guides brief every guest before cultural experiences begin. These briefings promote respect toward local traditions, wildlife, and natural surroundings. Consequently, guests leave with a deeper understanding of the communities they visit.
Working Toward Travelife Certification
Kilidove Tours earned Travelife Partner status in 2024, covering our office, driver-guides, and mountain crews. This certification framework represents a globally recognized standard for sustainable tourism. Throughout 2025, we submitted our required certification documentation and strengthened internal monitoring systems.
A full Travelife audit is planned for the near future, reflecting our ongoing commitment to improvement. We view certification not as a finish line, but as continuous progress.
Transparency in Our Sustainability Journey
We believe honest reporting matters as much as the actions themselves. Our 2025 sustainability report shares both achievements and challenges we faced along the way. For example, improved waste tracking revealed increases in recorded waste categories. However, this increase reflects better monitoring rather than worse performance.
We also learned that reliable systems and staff engagement accelerate real progress. These lessons now shape our sustainability goals moving forward. Traveling with Kilidove Tours means supporting a company that measures its impact honestly.
Plan a Trip That Gives Back
Choosing Kilidove Tours means choosing a safari built on responsibility and care. Every trip you take supports local jobs, environmental restoration, and ethical tourism practices. Our specialists are ready to design a journey that reflects these same values.
