Marangu Route
A Kilimanjaro route associated with mountain hut accommodation rather than the camping arrangements used on several other trails.
Use the itinerary and price information on this page to review the proposed programme. Confirm the exact mountain days, overnight stops, arrival arrangements and inclusions for your dates with Kilidove before booking.
Marangu’s hut accommodation is its main practical distinction. A roof does not remove the walking, cold or altitude demands; confirm the sleeping arrangements and the precise programme in your proposal.
The goal is Uhuru Peak, at 5,895 metres, but reaching the summit is subject to health, weather and guide decisions. Your proposal should explain the planned ascent, descent and arrangements if the programme needs to change.
For a comparison with other approaches, read the Kilimanjaro route comparison guide and visit our Kilimanjaro climbing tours page. To discuss this route, request a Marangu Route proposal with your travel dates, group size and hiking experience.
-
Prepare for consecutive walking days, hills, uneven ground and descent with your own daypack. Match training to the published programme and your current ability. Fitness does not prevent altitude illness. See the Kilimanjaro training guide for a preparation framework.

Read the day-by-day programme below and compare it with other Kilimanjaro route options. The route name alone does not specify every overnight stop or the total holiday length.
-
Bring a tested clothing system for rain, wind and cold, suitable boots, a daypack, headlamp and the personal equipment specified for your trip. Check which sleeping equipment is needed for the mountain huts.
Use our Kilimanjaro packing checklist and daypack and duffel guide, then confirm supplied equipment, rentals and baggage limits in your proposal.
-
January–February and June–October are commonly chosen drier periods, but rain, wind, cold and changing visibility remain possible. Choose dates using the Kilimanjaro seasons guide and confirm actual departure availability with Kilidove.
-
No route or level of fitness guarantees a summit. Ask how the exact programme allows for acclimatisation, how health decisions are made and what emergency arrangements apply. Treat any success percentage as meaningful only when its dates, itinerary, sample and definition are supplied.
For the financial comparison, check the price table and inclusions on this page against your written proposal. Our Kilimanjaro cost guide explains which extras to ask about. Send a Marangu Route enquiry for your dates.
